Koby Jones | Managing Director

Koby Jones is the Founder, Responsible Manager and Managing Director of The SILC Group. He is involved in all aspects of the company’s operations including general management, business development, client interaction, product selection, strategic initiatives, technology, governance, risk and compliance.

He holds numerous qualifications including the Certified Practicing Accountants (CPA) Program, a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting, Commercial Law, Finance) through Deakin University, Diploma in Financial Advising from the Securities Institute of Australia (now Kaplan Professional), and Advanced Certificate in Management Skills from RMIT; as well as having various industry certifications which include the Margin Lending Accreditation Program, Accredited Derivatives Adviser (Level 1), and Diploma of Financial Services from the Australian Financial Markets Association (AFMA).

Koby has considerable experience in the Financial Services Industry spanning mainly across both Global Financial Markets and Private Wealth Management with major Financial Institutions Westpac Banking Corporation (WBC), Australia and New Zealand Banking Group (ANZ) and National Australia Bank (NAB), as well as Wilson HTM Investment Group predominantly in advisory, structuring and product distribution positions. His product experience covers all investment asset classes, structured finance and extensive financial markets exposure, while in his various capacities he has dealt with many varied clients ranging from Corporates to High-Net-Worth Individuals.

Michelle Tay | General Manager & Executive Director

Michelle Tay is the Executive Director and Head of Group Services at The SILC Group. Her main activities at a corporate level includes oversight and functional responsibilities in our finance, compliance, legal and various operational areas as well as involvement in transactions across the business units.

She holds various qualifications including the Certified Practicing Accountants (CPA) Program, Masters of Applied Finance through Financial Services Institute of Australasia (now KAPLAN Professional) and Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting and Finance) through Monash University.

Michelle commenced her career at the Australia and New Zealand Banking Group (ANZ) in the Business Banking division servicing commercial and business clients, then moved through to the Agency Services team within the Corporate Finance division as a senior team member managing a portfolio of complex syndicated corporate and structured finance transactions for corporate and institutional clients.

Prior to joining The SILC Group, Michelle was part of the Commercial team at Molopo Energy Limited, an ASX-listed oil and gas company, and was involved in the commercialisation strategies of the company’s natural gas projects particularly in Australia and South Africa where she provided recommendations to the executive management, reviewed and negotiated commercial and legal documentation, managed relationships with joint venture partners, government departments and co-development parties, and monitored and managed compliance matters.

Huey Chew | Director, Business and Operations

Huey Chew is the Director of Business and Operations at The SILC Group. Her main activities at a corporate level include managing the operational and marketing support functions as well as involvement in transactions across the various business units.

Huey commenced her career at Ernst & Young in the Corporate Tax division providing commercial tax advise to large blue chip Australian and foreign companies in the areas of corporate tax, tax risk management and tax accounting in Australian and US GAAP.

Huey also has considerable experience in the Financial Services industry predominantly across private banking, strategy, operations, product management and risk and compliance.  She started her financial services career as a private banker with NAB Private Wealth managing a portfolio of ultra and high net worth individuals before moving into head office.   She was until recently working in the office of the Executive General Manager for NAB Private Wealth, providing project management, strategic and operational support to the Private Wealth leadership team.

Huey holds various qualifications including a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) and Bachelor of Science (Psychology) through Monash University and a Graduate Diploma of Chartered Accounting through Chartered Accountants – Australia & New Zealand.

Daryl Koch | Governance & Assurance Advisor

Daryl Koch is the Governance and Assurance Advisor at The SILC Group providing guidance with respect to risk and compliance, and managing the assurance program across the group’s business units.

He has a varied background in Risk Management for over 30 years, with his previous roles including Foreign Exchange Trading and Advisory, Interest Rate Risk Management, Derivative Structuring and Synthetic Debt Structuring which included advisory to Institutional, Corporate and Commercial clients. Daryl’s most recent role was Head of Assurance (Australia) for the Markets Operations Unit of a major Australian Trading Bank which involved Operational Risk and Regulatory Compliance for that business.

Daryl is also experienced in the Not-for-Profit (NFP) sector which includes being past Chair of the Victorian Chapter of the Finance and Treasury Association, past Board Member of a Melbourne Private Member’s Club, past Deputy Chair of the Disciplinary Tribunal of the Institute of Public Accountants (IPA), immediate past President of the Victorian Divisional Council of the IPA and current member of its Accounting Faculty. He is also currently Board Director of the Australian SME Alliance Ltd, a Fellow of the IPA, Fellow of the Financial Services Institute of Australia, a Fellow of the Finance and Treasury Association, and a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Peter Munns | Specialist Advisor

Peter Munns is a Specialist Advisor at The SILC Group providing strategic corporate financing, structuring and advisory solutions to our corporate and institutional clients.

Peter is a highly experienced lead advisor and financier with over 20 years experience in the Australian markets, covering the upstream energy, power and utilities, infrastructure, resources and sectors.  As a specialist in Asian inbound investment, Peter has also developed senior relationships with corporate investors in China, Japan and Korea, as well other jurisdictions.

Peter was until recently a Partner in the M&A team at PwC, and jointly led the National Deals team in Power, Utilities and Infrastructure.  He has also worked at senior levels across M&A / corporate finance, project lending and principal investment at ANZ, Citigroup and Deutsche Bank in both Melbourne and Sydney, and internally as a tax and finance advisor at Mitsubishi Oil in Tokyo.

Peter has an MBA degree from the International University of Japan and  Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Newcastle.

Philip Pezzi | Head of Property Solutions

Philip Pezzi is the Executive Director and Head of Property Solutions at The SILC Group providing advisory, structuring, arranging and management solutions to clients within the property sector.

Philip is an experienced banking and financial services executive with over 25 years experience in both Australian and international markets, having held senior executives roles with National Australia Bank, ANZ Bank and Citigroup largely focusing on driving business growth and profitability across Australian, Asian and US markets.

Until recently, Philip was also the Founder and Group Managing Director of Lachlan Partners which he developed and oversaw until it was sold to IOOF (as part of the Shadforth group) in August 2014. He has a very impressive history and extensive experience of building high growth and enduring businesses, in particular servicing private business owners, entrepreneurs, families and high net worth individuals.

Philip holds a Bachelor of Business majoring in Accounting and Tax, and has completed management and finance programs with the Macquarie Graduate School of Management and the Melbourne Business School, and is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants.

Frank Russo | Head of Portfolio Solutions

Frank Russo is the Executive Director and Head of Portfolio Solutions at The SILC Group, providing a range of portfolio construction, funds management and investment advisory services to our institutional and high net worth clients.

Frank has almost 30 years of experience across traditional and alternative asset classes in terms of individual investments, manager selection, portfolio configuration, strategic asset allocation and performance reviews.  This has included Fixed Interest, Australian Equities, International Equities, Infrastructure, Timber, Property, Hedge Funds and Private Equity.  He was previously Director, Alternative Investments Consulting in Australia for Russell Investments.  At Russell he provided investment consulting advice in relation to alternative and traditional assets covering strategic asset allocation, portfolio construction, investment manager configuration and individual investments.  He has also had direct experience in acquiring and managing infrastructure assets during his time with an Australian alternatives manager (Access Capital Advisers/Whitehelm), as well as experience as a senior portfolio manager at Equipsuper, where he managed investment portfolios of direct holdings in listed equity, debt, private equity, infrastructure and timber.  Previous roles have also included positions working in strategy consulting (LEK) and banking (Westpac).

This work experience is complemented at an educational level by a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting and Economics) from the University of Melbourne and Masters of Business Administration from the Melbourne Business School, as well as a Post Graduate Diploma of Applied Finance and Investment from the Financial Services Institute of Australasia (FINSIA).  He is also a Fellow of FINSIA and Certified Practising Accountant (CPA).

Chris Tonkin | Specialist Advisor

Chris Tonkin is a Specialist Advisor at The SILC Group within our Corporate and Debt Solutions teams providing strategic project, corporate financing and advisory services to our clients.

Chris is a highly experienced senior business executive with an extensive background in providing financial, management and strategic products, services and advice to industry. He has over 30 years experience and a broad industry background in business generation, management and strategy development. He has a substantial track record in structuring and arranging complex financings for companies and projects, in Australia and internationally, across all major industry sectors and particularly the natural resources, power and telecommunications sectors.

He began his career as a metallurgist and environmental specialist, diversifying into commercial roles at several major industrial companies and subsequently banking and financial services, including project finance, corporate and project advisory roles at AIDC, The Chase Manhattan Bank, KPMG Corporate Finance and the Australia and New Zealand Banking Group (ANZ), where he was Executive Director and Head of Natural Resources, Project and Structured Finance.

His qualifications include  a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Metallurgy and Chemistry from the University of Melbourne, a Bachelor of Arts with majors in Economics and Politics from the University of Melbourne, and an MBA also from the University of Melbourne. Chris is a Graduate Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and a Member of the Finance and Treasury Association.
